• Implementation of the Law on Tourism and Tourism Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia;
• Monitoring and analysis of system solutions, legal regulations and measures of economic policy on business and development of tourism industry and proposing of appropriate measures;
• Proposing and implementing measures to encourage the development of tourism;
• Proposing measures to improve the quality of tourist services and the competitiveness of the tourist offer, especially short-term success of products such as:
  • business (conference) tourism and MICE;
  • Touring - the launch of circular themed tours (Road of the Roman emperors, Transromanika, monastery tours, wine and culture Roads);
  • events (festivals, competitions, etc..)
  • City brakes (Belgrade and Novi Sad);
  • rural tourism;
• The realization of the adopted master plans;
• Preparation of draft laws and other regulations in the field of tourism;
• Providing opinions regarding the implementation of regulations in the field of tourism;
• Providing opinions on the acts of other bodies and organizations to which the Government gives approval;
• Proposing and taking measures to promote foreign tourist traffic and the effects of tourism;
• Monitoring the Plan for Serbia to join the EU (NPI,  SSP, the European partnership, monitoring of the European Commission reports on the annual progress of Serbia in the field of tourism)
• Undertaking measures for the development and promotion of international cooperation in tourism;
• Monitoring and reporting projects for pre-accession to EU funds;
• Monitoring of all types of donor programs within the EU;
• Monitoring of international regulations, agreements and recommendations, harmonization of domestic regulations with the EU in the field of tourism;
• Research and analysis, the appearance and movement of the tourist market for tourist products and tourist clusters, submission and analysis of data contained in the Register of tourism;
• Implementation of the first-instance administrative procedure for classification and the first-instance administrative procedure for the withdrawal of the licenses;
• Addressing the complaints on first instance decisions;
• Monitoring of development, proposing measures and implementation of activities in education and education of personnel in tourism, to promote employment;
• Preparation of the plan, implementation and monitoring of budget execution in part related to the sector;
• Analysis pre-investment  and investment projects for tourism development;
• Integrated planning for tourism development related activities;
• Declaration and sustainable use of the tourist area;
• Monitoring the state investment in tourism development through incentive measures.

• performs inspection supervision over the implementation of laws and regulations governing the tourism and taking the prescribed administrative and punitive measures in the performance of inspection supervision;
• Determine the fulfillment of prescribed conditions for performing the tourist and hotel business;
• Consumer protection and intellectual property protection in the areas of tourism and catering;
• Production of reports and information on the sectors activity and the state in areas in which supervision is held;
• Monitoring the implementation of regulations, initiating changes and proposing appropriate solutions and undertaking educational and other activities in order to prevent the erroneous application of the regulations;
• Legal and analytical tasks related to the performance of inspection supervision;
• Cooperation with other inspection bodies, judicial bodies, bodies of magistrates and other government agencies and organizations and associations in the field of tourism and consumer protection; Monitoring of implementation of projects for tourism development and control the execution of the contract between the Ministry and business entities in coordination with the Department of Tourism.

The Department of tourist inspection form following internal units in the headquarters of the Ministry:

• Department for coordination, legal and analytical tasks - Head of Department Saša Risteski.

Outside of  Ministry headquarters following departments are established:

• Department of Tourist inspection Belgrade - Head of Department Brankica Bajat;
• Department of Tourist inspection Novi Sad - Head of Department Radoslav Rončević;
• Department of Tourist inspection Kraljevo - Head of Department Radoslav Komadinić;
• Department of Tourist inspection Niš - Head of Department Dragica Pavlović.

Tourism and tourism sector perform inspections and other activities in this area that are prescribed by the Law on Ministries, the Law on Tourism, the Law on Spas, Law on Public Ski Resorts,  Law on Consumer Protection, Law on Advertising, Law on Private Entrepreneurs, the Law on Special Jurisdiction  over Efficient Protection of Intellectual Property Rights and Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, as well as other regulations issued under those laws.
